“There are no words, no words to adequately express my heart-felt gratitude to you for your generous support of the work done by the Housing Development Corporation of Hampton Roads to purchase a home for a deserving family, Mom, Dad, six year old boy and a new baby due on February 8th. My thanks and sincere appreciation to each member of the parish for the generosity that has brought such happiness to this family.”

Beginning on 10 February, we will begin Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 9:30 Mass. The children will pick up nametags prior to the Mass, sit with their parents during the opening song and then be dismissed with the lead catechists and helpers before the reading begin. The children in grades kindergarten through 2nd are invited to go to the classroom and hear the readings from Mass and discuss them with the catechists. During the offertory, the children will return to their families. This program is liturgical and is connected to the Mass readings and the prayers. Currently we need some additional helpers for this program. If you are interested in this program, please email Margie  margie@stjeromennva.org  or call the office. If you would like to see this program offered at the 11:30 Mass and are willing to help, please email Margie.

Almsgiving

Giving alms, Jesus teaches, means making the needs of others our own, especially the needy of our world. They are all around us: children and the old, the sick and the suffering, families and individuals, next-door neighbors and people in lands faraway. Poor or rich, we all have something to give.

Whatever we give, though, should be something of ourselves, something that costs us. Please consider giving to Operation Rice Bowl and to our efforts to buy water buffalo for people in economically depressed nations around the world.

During this solemn season of Lent, we ask that you leave church in a spirit of silent prayer. Please stay in your pew until the priest has reached the commons area, and then process out in silence.

Stations of the Cross and Soup Supper

Throughout Lent, Stations of the Cross will be prayed each Friday at 6:30 pm. Stations will be followed by a Soup Supper. On February 15th, Stations will be led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and they will also prepare tomato soup and toasted cheese for our dinner. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us each week for nourishment of both body and soul.

Each month St. Jerome parish conducts Bingo at Riverside Regional Convalescent Center on the second Monday of the month (February 11th) at 2:30 pm. Many of the residents need assistance to play the games and volunteers are needed to lend a hand. Please help to show these people, (many who are former parishioners of St. Jerome) that they are valued and appreciated. If you can help, please be at the Center at 2:15. For questions call Bob Sanford at 872-9108.
