Parish Nurses

What can you do when you or someone you know feels anxious and depressed? Helpful information at the parish nurses bulletin board.

If you would like to donate flowers for Easter in memory of a loved one, please pick up a Flower Envelope from the table in the Commons. Envelopes can be returned in the collection basket. We want to be certain to spell everyone’s name correctly, so we ask that you please print clearly so that your gift can be acknowledged in the bulletin. Thank you.

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry is in need of yarn! If you have yarn sitting around your house that you can donate to this wonderful ministry, please drop it off at the office or in the box marked in the foyer of the church. The ladies and those receiving the shawls thank you!

Christian Formation

Please note that the Christian Formation column in the bulletin is not only for our youth. In it you will find many adult programs that are offered in the parish.

On 21 February, Karen Kurilko from the Immigration and Refugee Office will talk to the St. Jerome parish about refugee in our area, what changes in government are happening and what can we do to help those moving to our area. Please join us in the Faith and Life Center at 7pm. Call the office for more information.

All Catechists that have not completed Pathways are invited to attend a home based Bootcamp on 22 and 23 February. We will meet in the Faith and Life Center after the Soup Supper on Friday night. Saturday’s session will begin at 9:30am. Please email Margie if you are able to attend. These 2 days should allow you to complete 92% of your packet!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word will take place during the 9:30 Mass every Sunday. The children will pick up nametags prior to the Mass, sit with their parents during the opening song and then be dismissed with the lead catechists and helpers before the reading begin. The children in grades kindergarten through 2nd are invited to go to the classroom and hear the readings from Mass and discuss them with the catechists. During the offertory, the children will return to their families. If you are interested in this program, please e-mail margie@stjeromennva.org or call the office. If you would like to see this program offered at the 11:30 Mass and are willing to help, please email Margie.

Come to CORE! The topic this month is Centering Prayer with Father Peter Creed as the presenter. CORE will be on 24 February from 5 – 7pm and is an event for everyone. Please RSVP Margie if you can attend so that we have an accurate count for dinner. This is a great chance to give your Lenten commitments a boast of energy! (oh, and bring a dessert!)

Youth

On Sunday Feb 17th will be going to the WINTER JAM 2008 Concert tour at the ODU Convocation Center. Admission is $10 at the door. We will be traveling down by bus which will be leaving at 4PM SHARP!!!. If you choose to ride on the bus, please be in the parking lot on time. Doors open at 5pm and the Concert begins at 6pm. Afterwards we will be offering a lock in for all 8th grade students and above. This will take the place of our normal Life Teen events for that night. Bus riders will need to complete a permission slip prior to getting on the bus. These will be handed out at 9:30 Mass on Sunday and at Life Teen Sunday evening.

On Feb 20 – 22nd we will be having a “MEDIA OUT” to raise awareness of poverty in America. This will be a media fast (you must abstain from cell phones, mp3 players, computers, TV’s, radio, etc……) will last for three days. WHO’s up for the challenge in this media rich society? This is open to youth and adults. If you want more information, you can pick up a packet at Mass or during Life Teen. You can also contact Grimm at youth@stjeromennva.org

Fasting

Instead of giving up sweets or TV, why not try one or more of these “Lenten Fast” ideas.

Fast from anger and hatred.
Fast from judging others.
Fast from low self esteem, pessimism.
Fast from discouragement.
Fast from anxiety, fear and worry.
Fast from complaining.
Fast from resentments or bitterness.
Fast from gossip.

You must be the change
you want to see in the world!

Thank You! Thank You!

Your generous donations last week will make it possible to purchase 7 water buffalo. We will have the donation basket in the rear of the Worship Center after every Mass during Lent. Every buffalo that we purchase will make an enormous difference in the life of some of the people in our Global Family.

If you haven’t picked up a rice bowl, please be certain to get one. Your participation is this Program supports Catholic Relief Services projects around the world. Rice Bowls will be collected after Lent.

Annual Share Fair and Plant Sale

The Fellowship Committee is getting ready for our Annual Share Fair and Plant Sale on April 26th. Here’s your opportunity to become more involved in parish activities by growing some plants for the sale. Some pots, some dirt, some seeds, some sun; there isn’t any limit to what can be done.
