It’s difficult to find an adjective that adequately describes the beautiful plants that you will find at the annual Fellowship Share Fair and Plant Sale. Of course, that does depend on you. The sale will be held April 26th here at St. Jerome, but we need your plants to make the sale a success. Please start to grow plants to donate. For information call Margaret at 253-8758.

Parish Nurses

Sometimes life events can trigger suicidal feelings.
Be aware of what to look for. See the parish nurse bulletin board for information.

Christian Formation

To date, the prayer shawl ministry group has created many beautiful shawls that are being given to people on our prayer list in our parish. Thank you ladies for such wonderful creations! The love from the St. Jerome community will be felt by many.

Our scripture class meets on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and Thursday mornings at 10 am in the Faith and Life Center, room 7. This new group will begin meeting on 12 March and anyone can join us. This new book will take 7 weeks to complete. Email margie@stjeromennva.org or call the office 877-3771 for more information.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word will take place during the 9:30 Mass every Sunday. The children will pick up nametags prior to the Mass, sit with their parents during the opening song and then be dismissed with the lead catechists and helpers before the reading begin. The children in grades kindergarten through 2nd are invited to go to the classroom and hear the readings from Mass and discuss them with the catechists. During the offertory, the children will return to their families. If you would like to see this program offered at the 11:30 Mass and are willing to help, please email Margie.

YOUTH

There will be a Region 4 Middle School Cleanup day on Saturday March 29th. Join us as we help to improve our environment and have fun in the process. We will be cleaning up one of the Newport News parks with the other Region 4 Churches. Lunch will be included. Contact Anne or Grimm for more information.

The Mardi gras Committee from Mary Immaculate Hospital thank all who contributed in any way to the success of the Mardi gras.

A woman who is visually impaired is in need of a ride to Mass on Sundays. She lives in the Masters Area of Kiln Creek. If you can be of assistance, even once or twice a month, please call Jeanie at the parish office. (877-5021)

Reconciliation Spans All Languages

Paths of Reconciliation:
Through hearing the Word of God: in preaching, reading, discussion, or the dialog of prayer.

Through Restitution: Reconciling with the people we have injured or wronged.

Through productive love: Turning away from our needs and undertaking a commitment, individually and socially, on the behalf of others.

Through dying with Jesus: acceptance of situations of which we have no human solution (loneliness, old age) and the endurance of meaningless but unavoidable suffering.

Through the Church: forgiveness from Christ through His representative, the priest.

Experience the Sacrament of Reconciliation
at St. Jerome, Tuesday, March 11th at 7:00 pm

Lighting a Candle Instead of Cursing the Darkness Recognition

Some people see a problem and complain; some people see a problem and fix it. The beautiful red maple trees in front of the Church were given to Father Joe from the Fellowship Committee. For these trees to remain beautiful, someone must take care of them. At St. Jerome it is Mickey Marcella who quietly trims, waters, and keeps the trees looking beautiful, and so this week he is our Candle Lighter.

(If you know of someone who deserves recognition for their Candle Lighting, please call Jeanie in the parish office)

Stations of the Cross

On Friday, March 14th, Stations of the Cross will be led by Pastoral Council members. Surprise soup prepared by the Council members will follow the Stations. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for nourishment of both body and soul.

Our Water Buffalo Mission

WOW! You are all so very generous. To date you have donated enough money to purchase 25 water buffalo. We will continue to have the donation basket in the rear of the Worship Center for the next two weeks. Everyone who has contributed to the project has reached out to so many people in our global family. Thank you.
