Prayer We "ALL" Should Know

Our Father

Our Father, Who are in heaven, Hallowed be thy
name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done
on earth as it is heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our
trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us, and lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
AMEN

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
AMEN

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace! the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
AMEN

Additional Readings for Your Spiritual Growth

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father,
the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that
is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord,
Jesus Christ, the only son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God,
Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down
from heaven: by the power of the
Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the
right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Beatitudes
Matthew 5 : 3 - 10

When he saw the crowds he went up on the mountainside. After he had sat down, his disciples gathered around him and he began to teach them: How blest are the poor in spirit: the reign of God is theirs. Blest too are the sorrowing; they shall be consoled. Blest are the lowly; they shall inherit the land. Blest are they who hunger and thirst for holiness. Blest are they who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs Blest are the single-hearted for they shall see God. Blest too the peacemakers they shall be calle4 sons of God. Blest are those persecuted for holiness' sake; the reign of God is theirs. Blest are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter all kind of slander against you because of me. Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is great in heaven; they persecuted the prophets before you in the very same way.

Sermon On The Mount
Matthew 5: 1-12
Adapted for the 1990's
Rev. Michael Bader
Parochial Vicar at St. Jerome from 1989 to 1992

Based on Jesus' original text, we modem followers of His are called to compose our own Sermon on the Mount, preserving Jesus' wisdom but extending it into our own experience. Here is what and whom we should call blessed today. Still blessed are the poor and the sad, because they have suffered enough. Also blessed are they who say "yes" or "no" straight out, because they will be trusted. But woe to those who misinform because they will end up lying to each other. Blessed are the young who are open to the truth, because they shall get smart. But woe to those who know it all, because they will always be ignorant. Doubly blessed are parents who form their children for freedom, while those who try to relive their lives in their children will make the same mistake twice. Blessed are those who keep hope alive, because they will be surprised by joy. Woe to those who expect nothing; their expectations will be fulfilled. Blessed are those whose love takes them out to others; they will have many friends in heaven Woe to those who turn in on themselves; one is a lonely number and blessed are you who try and fail and try again, and trust in the God of mercy until your last breath on earth. You will breathe the breath of God in heaven with all the saints.
